Recommended every few years
As nice as it would be to keep using the same water year after year, there's just no way to keep out things like nitrates and calcium forever. We suggest a full water change and acid/chlorine wash once every three years. This ensures that your pool's bottom is cleaned of undesirables like rust, algae, and excess grit. Once refilled, your new water will be restarted with the proper balance of chemicals.
Scale is composed mostly of calcium and is found on the edges of your pool above the waterline. High pH/alkalinity/calcium levels can cause the scale to accumulate. It's ugly and it's hard to remove. However, using glass bead blasting techniques it can be removed quickly, effectively, and your pool need not be fully drained to do so. Contact us to find out more about bead blasting.
The benefit to owning a sand filter is that you do not need to worry about filter cleans every 6 months. Although, a sand change is necessary every 5-6 years. If you go too long without changing the sand, eventually you will be able to see particulates being blown back into your pool that should have been filtered out. this can result in dirty pools, unbalanced chemicals in the water, and overall more costs for you in the long run.
